About CN Park

Establishment of CN Park

In June 2024, JTEKT established CN Park at Kariya Plant.
JTEKT's products, which are used in various industries around the world, including automobiles, have significant impacts on the global environment, so reducing CO2 emissions is an important issue.
Regarding CO2 emissions from production activities (Scope1 and 2), we have declared that "we will achieve carbon neutrality (hereinafter referred to as "CN)" by 2035", and we are also working to reduce emissions throughout the entire life cycle (Scope 3) in order to achieve CN by 2050. For reducing CO2 emissions associated with "the purchase of raw materials and parts", which constitute the majority of Scope3, and CO2 emissions associated with "the use of products", we have worked on simple environmentally conscious design, such as making products smaller and lighter, and reduction of emissions in the value chain, together with our suppliers. As part of our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain, we would like to introduce JTEKT's past initiatives and the JTEKT Group's CN products to our suppliers in the hope that they will provide hints for their own initiatives.

Overview of CN Park and Main Initiatives

For achieving Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality, JTEKT is mainly engaged in "energy-saving activities" and "energy greening".
In terms of energy-saving activities, in addition to daily improvements at plants, such as reducing waste at production sites, ensuring shutdown at non-operation , and reducing air consumption, we are also developing energy-saving technologies such as conversion of hydraulic pump with inverter and reduction of heat treatment energy loss, and these initiatives are exhibited at the "CN Dojo".
Regarding the greening of energy, a major challenge is to reduce Scope 1 CO2 emissions. Therefore, we are working on the development and demonstration of technologies to "make", "store", "transport", and "use" hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels. These technologies are available at the "CN Lab".

CN Dojyo

JTEKT has been working on reducing CO2 emissions since announcing its Environmental Challenge 2050 in 2016. Besides introducing our initiatives, we are also introducing environmental issues and our company's philosophy.
We believe that having our suppliers experience these reduction initiatives will lead to their active reduction activities.

CN Lab

Hydrogen is an energy source that does not produce carbon dioxide when burned, is abundant on the earth, and can effectively store energy without fear of depletion. We have developed infrastructure technologies to "make" and "store" hydrogen using solar power generation, and have installed and operated the Kariya Plant as a model plant for solar power generation and hydrogen generation.
The CN Lab is a self-sustaining system that uses 100% renewable energy, and our product Libuddy® plays an important role in stabilizing the unstable voltage created by the solar power generation in this self-sustaining energy management system.
Libuddy® has two main effects; one is to improve power generation efficiency by expanding the voltage that can be generated, and the other is to improve equipment life by reducing the load on the AC converter, which contributes to the effective use of renewable energy.
The solar energy produced in this way is "stored" as electricity in lithium-ion batteries and is also stored and used as hydrogen. "Green Hydrogen" can be used in production processes such as aluminum casting and heat treatment, as well as in fuel cell applications for power generation and for cooking.
In order to respond to fluctuations in demand in production processes, etc., we are also working to demonstrate hydrogen management systems for "making" and "storing" hydrogen.
