In this paper, an optimum design method of the strain wave gearing for variable gear ratio steering system is described. The movement tracks of each element to compose the strain wave gearing were derived, and it was proposed that the method to request the tooth geometries of each gear pair for considering the contact strength balance and the load ability. In addition, FEM analysis according to 3D model has been done, and base on the FEM analysis results, the transformations of each component were understand and the rigidities of gear pair for requesting the optimum profi les were presumed.
